Artificial intelligence depends on increasingly large computing systems. More efficient algorithms and datacenter operations reduce the resources required to train and operate those systems.
The work
Through Carbon Connect, we study how algorithm design and datacenter operations work together to improve computing efficiency. The initiative is supported by a U.S. National Science Foundation grant and is conducted in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania.
Why it matters
Sustainable AI requires progress across the full computing stack. Connecting algorithm design with datacenter operations gives researchers a practical way to address energy use at both levels.
